today I am happy to report that Audrey and I successfully completed our 13 week TRANSFORMATION program. It has been an amazing experience – unlike anything we ever experienced before in our lives. The “holistic” approach that combines education, proper nutrition, understanding supplements, personal coaching, support and a web 2.0 community is powerful and a projected success rate of 100% is reasonable. What I mean by that is – you simply cannot fail!

2011 has been a crazy year for many of us. Lots of things happened around the world, as well as in our own lives – and constantly made us think, tweak and adjust. 2012 is definitely going to be a year of change, so 2011 was maybe just the “warm-up”. Still, there’s no reason to be afraid of change, but rather to look into the future with great confidence. Because whatever you do with confidence and passion will make you succeed, no matter how huge the obstacles are that you might have to overcome. And, in case you are blessed with so many great friends and partners as we are, things mastered “as a team” taste even more “sweet”.

It is Christmas Day today. Time to express love and gratitude to all the people who are close to us. Time to say “Thank You”. Time to reflect and analyze.

To us, those few days between Christmas and New Years Eve are the most important days of the year, as we use them to review and to plan. But first and foremost, they also mean family time – watching children play and speaking with family members of all generations, while over the year time is to short for it. A good glass of wine next to the Christmas tree, walks in the snow, conversations next to a cosy fireplace, tea and candies, candle light and amazing food, NO cellphones, computers or social media… that’s Christmas to us. We hope that you will all enjoy Christmas time the way you love it.

Deep from our heart, we send you lots of love for the next days and wish you a very blessed 2012. Ourselves, we feel strong about 2012 and will enter it with great plans and full power.

I just returned from a week in beautiful Park City, Utah, where we attended the 3rd annual Unicity North American Leadership Conference. It’s been a blast. Let me give you some updates, but at the same time I want to emphasize that it has been a North American market’s conference. Therefore, some of the breathtaking announcements and launches are not available for Europe or other parts of the world at this time. But they will be in the future.

Unicity has experienced significant growth throughout the world. As Brent Morrill, President of Unicity, mentioned in his opening speech, the company has grown up to 50% in total the past year alone.

The attendees of the summit witnessed a fireworks of innovations – some of them are so significant that without doubt Unicity now leads by far the pace in the industry. Let me cover them briefly. As I mentioned before, we will be introduced to those programs and innovations outside North America in the near future as well, when preparations for the intl. markets are completed and the timing is right. Most of you know that I am a Social Media addict. Over the course of the past 2 years, I invested a lot of time end energy to learn as much as possible about Social Media and how to use it right. I am more convinced today than ever before, that basic Social Media skills and understanding is an absolute MUST in our profession. If you believe that you will be able to run a network marketing business without the necessary knowledge and skills in Social Media, you most probably will stay far behind.

Blue Ocean – Business Building System

Based on what we have created for the market of India early this year, we have worked hard to introduce the new highly duplicatable and simple to apply Business Building System for the European markets. The roll-out will happen in 3 Steps.

summer time = vacation time, and people aim to spend most of their time outside their homes – in beer-gardens, piscinas, street cafes, at the lake, in the mountains or at the beach. They are motivated to do sports and have fun with family and friends. They barbecue, hike and bike. As the days are already getting shorter again, everyone wants to spend as much time as possible outside. I do too.

This morning, I read an interesting article about the fact that more than 50% of the Germans work even when on vacation. – “Not for me“, you might think instantly, but please, think again:

Technology enables us to take things wherever we go. At any time, we know that we could do something or not. Some might see this as a disadvantage or a burden, for me, it is rather an advantage. In the past, it was always a horror for me to know, that once I return from vacation, masses of (e)mails are hitting me at once. This is a stressful thought. Nowadays, while I am on vacation or somewhere outside, a glimpse on my iPhone or iPad is enough to know all is fine. Should something urgent require my immediate attention, I can instantly act and dive into the pool just a little later, knowing all is fine again.

For me, this is definitely a better way to do things. 

Next, think about the creative aspect. What are you normally thinking about when relaxing in your sun chair, overlooking the gorgeous blue sea? Myself, I am thinking creative stuff all the time. This is the best place to reflect, to think or to discuss life with your family – and make new plans. If a unique idea hits me, I grab my iPad or just a note block and develop it a little further or even finalize it. It’s there when I return home and I can instantly act (even more since I am not hit by all those mails ).

Last, what about all the new people you meet when you are on vacation? They want to chat. Think about  all those “What are you doing for business?” questions. This is the question we love to be asked, correct? Wanna know the best answer? “I am not on vacation, I live like that“…

For me, not shutting everything down while being on vacation is the better way to do things during the summer. We are in the freedom business which means we have the choice. We can relax at the most beautiful places, take it easy and still be in the flow and “ready” when needed. Remember, opportunity knocks when least expected. So during vacation time, we can work, but (for a change) definitely “inside our comfort zone”.

First, there’s SCOOP.it. (what’s that?)

How often do you surf the web and find an interesting article or website that fits to your favorite subject? It happens all the time, right? But how to save those articles – or even share them? Putting everything up on your Facebook wall or on your blog can’t be the solution. It would dilute your own, personal input. SCOOP.it is the solution!

Through Scoop.it, you can assemble your favorite content at one spot and have your community follow. This is really something the Social Media world AND the Network Marketing world needs! You can easily create your favorite topic and start – as they call it – “curating”. Check out what I’ve done so far on 4 topics I will now constantly add value to:

• Unicity-on-the-web
• Network-Marketing-Resources
• People-Centered-Leadership
• Social-Media-Network-Marketing

With a mouse click, I can now pull matching content of the web and add it to those topics. My fans, friends or business partners can follow and learn from this content at the same time I do. I can even invite friends to post their findings in the same category. Chapeau. This is incredibly valuable for us Network Marketers and I know my community will like it.

Next, there’s KLOUT.com. (what’s that?)

It’s the NEW standard for influence! For those of you who want to learn about (and improve on) their Social Media efficiency, Klout.com is the place to start. Facebook et al. can be – and for most users is – a waste of time. You just need to do it right. While many think they do great stuff, they are in fact totally unproductive and waste their and other’s valuable time. Social Media only works well for you if you build a community of loyal followers, fans and friends who consider your input utmost valuable.

I just read yesterday, that big companies (like AUDI f. ex.) work with the Klout score of a user and taylor their marketing campaigns accordingly. They show different campaigns and ads relative to the user’s Klout score! They display unique content, opportunities, and rewards to users on Facebook Pages based on their Klout Score.

How well you are doing, you can measure with Klout. It provides a “score” by monitoring all your social media activities on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn (more services to be added). Just check it out and see where you stand (here’s mine). And then improve! Klout will show you Social Media stats you wont believe they even exist. Another proof of evidence how transparent the web can be.

This is a stunning service. It allows you to set up your personal landing page easily. So you don’t need a personal website anymore (which you had not needed anyway). You can link your private domain to it and here it is – your personal web appearance 2.0! Connect your Social Media accounts to it and you are set! Best on the web for network marketers (here’s mine)!

So, what you should do…

… to efficiently use Facebook, Twitter, WordPress, LinkedIn, Scoop et al. without neglecting your daily business? The good news is: You do not need to build an own website anymore. The bad news is: You got some (simple) Social Media work to do!

• Set up your Facebook Profile and connect with the right people and pages (read my articles about  Facebook for Networkers and Sharing)
• Set up a Twitter account and “follow” the right people.
• Create your personal landing page on About.me.
• Do NOT create a WordPress Blog, unless you are a top leader with great content to share. You are a networker, not a blogger!
• Set up a personalized website with your Network Marketing company when offered.

my past trip to India for sure counts to my most exciting trips in my entire business career. This country is just amazing – 1.2 Billion people in a booming economy with a strong need for what we do offer. Cities that 10 years ago were still sleepy nests, today exceed a population of 5+ million people. And everyone strives for a better life, everyone seems hungry for success.

I decided not to attend all city tour events and rather stay at some places for a min. of 2-3 days, to get a better picture of what is going on and what our potential could be. So I visited Hyderabad, Mumbai, New Delhi and Bangalore. I learned way back, that whenever you visit a new country intending to do business there, you at first need to be a very good observer. I learnt this lesson throughout Europe, which is not one country with 50 states, but rather consists of 50 (!) individual countries that differ from each other like f. ex. Mexico and Canada does. India is again a totally different thing.

So in order to find out how our message and business could fit in, I had to observe first, learn as much as possible about just everything – and then adjust our business model and our message according to what I had learned. A plain approach that stems from our western thinking and our western experience considered “duplicatable” would most probably not work. From our experience, it would not work in Turkey, which from a European view is maybe closest to be compared to India. So why should it work in India? Although there’s need of a simple system and duplication, the “how to do it” definitely needs to be tailored to this market, even more, to its people.

Very aware I am a guest in this country, I covered this subject in all my speeches. I attempted to be a great ambassador both for our great opportunity and for myself as a person, in order to gain confidence and trust, which always comes first. Once you have that established, you can make the next step and unveil details and / or teach specifically on the subjects.

So what did I observe? – Here’s what surprised me most and what I learned from: Its – of course - People and … Traffic 

Driving in India is a real adventure. While we are used to follow strict traffic rules, they seem to follow their instincts. And it works out well. The traffic flow – we would call it chaos – is totally natural, just like people walk in a big crowd or animals in a herd, or like water flows. By watching this intensely, you realize a pattern. At first, I was wondering why there weren’t any more accidents, but then I realized that they got everything impressively well under control. Definitely, when it comes to traffic, it is us who lost this natural instinct that in fact is really applicable here – rules and regulations made us to. What I observed, was massive action through instinct, not through guidelines. Powerful.

Next: People. There is just so many of them. They are everywhere. Usually they stand together in small groups of 3 – 10 in the streets and just talk to each other. I was wondering all the time if they knew each other or whether it is also common to talk to a stranger who stops to join the group as he walked by. Anyway, we have lost that great gift as well – and rather feel threatened if someone talks to us unexpectedly in the streets. Again, a totally natural thing we seemed to have lost. You only realize this when you see it work differently in some other place. Otherwise you don’t really realize it, thinking what happens around us in our world is normal and the only way it can be. Big mistake!

I also observed many “strange” things regarding business behavior, f. ex. when it comes to appointments and meetings. Fortunately I studied this intensively before I came to India to stay calm about it in case it should happen to me (and it did). One of the things you experience is that an 11am meeting does not necessarily start at 11am – rather maybe at 1pm. This is not unusual and not considered dis-respectful, but once more their “natural” form of doing things. Interesting, once you know it, it is in fact easy to adjust too – if you start seeing it from a different perspective.

Those and many other insights do have an effect on how you want to approach business in a country like India. I have no doubts that the marketplace India has the biggest potential of all markets in the world, but things work differently compared to what most of us have learned all those past years. And guess what – they will teach us how to do business successfully in their beautiful country, by showing us the things we need to know before we can do what we need to do. I have met some talented potential leaders who are on fire. With what we can offer them, they will most probably become the most successful network marketers on this planet. For now, we need to focus on them. The more we invest ourselves in them, the bigger their business will become. Again, as always, this business is about investing (time) in talented people.

One thing is crystal clear: We will make it in India with Unicity. Strong corporate commitments, as well as an unlimited need for our products are great initial indicators.

1. Relationships - its all about it: In our business you can not be successful without having a good and energetic relationship with your business partners. Like Jeff Roberti said.”I´m collecting friends and money.”

2. Communication – to run our business successful you have to become a gifted “communicater”. The only advice we can give to people to start their business – talk about it and share Health&Wealth.

3. Authenticity – tell your story. Why did you join the business and than listen to people to learn their “Hot Button”.

I think in every market in the world we need a “system”. But I see the “system” like the streets in India. People can use them to go where they want to go, without someone telling them how fast or slow they have to go. Just let them flow and let them be creative. I found that system with the 3 booklets in India. Thank you to Todd, Jan and Sven – great Job. I´m looking forward to be back in India as soon as I can, to be part of building, maybe, the most successful country in the Unicity world.

long time, no blogging – I must apologize. At the same time, let me thank you for all the positive feedback I got on the articles (mostly the trainings modules) and the hundreds of subscriptions to that page – I promise I will not disappoint you. There’s A LOT in the mill! So bear with me.

You might already have noticed the “new look” of the page – I was “BRANDED”. My lovely wife Audrey, who is working long hours on designing the new 3 booklet training system that we are going to roll out in some markets in- and outside Europe, has done a great job in creating me a laser sharp “FOCUSsed” business appearance – this time with a fast cat instead of a fast car. The new appearance is visible on this Blog, my Facebook Fanpage and my Twitter account – its pretty straight forward, but I think I can really get used to it and I hope you do too!

FOCUS -> that’s what it is all about when you strive for success, isn’t it?

Anyway, like probably most of you I am striving for getting many things accomplished at the same time and my working day has lots of extra hours. However, if you are driven by vision and excitement, time does fly. Right now, next to working my daily – meanwhile global – business, I spend a lot of time on the New Business System that we are hopefully launching soon (to get Audrey her well-deserved design-award). Some of you who already got a glimpse sent us overwhelming feedback that encourages us even more to create a breakthrough-masterpiece!

What I am really looking forward too is the upcoming trip to India. So many European partners have signed up people there already. We see sign ups in the hundreds in some legs. I will update you live from India from each city of the tour and I hope that your Indian downline will grow as well.

Beginning of June, we are looking forward to participate in the Leadership Reward trip to Tenerife, where we will be staying at an extraordinary place – at the Gran Melia Luxury Resort. To those who made the trip let me say: Congratulations to this upcoming full-indulgence experience, to those who didn’t: You gotta make it next time!

Those of you who have been around some time in this industry know how important this personal story is. As this is a people’s business, people usually relate to it much more than to your products or services, or the company you are with. In Network Marketing, they primarily buy into YOU. They join YOUR team and decide to follow YOUR footsteps into a better life.

Over the last 20 years, I have heard amazing stories from amazing people. Stories that really touched me. Stories that made people cry. Mostly, those are “rags-to-riches” stories, where people literally had nothing and made this business work for them. They came out of nothing, now living a blessed life, and thus are blessing many others around them. Yes, this is possible in Network Marketing and I love this industry for that. As success in most other professions is based on education and degrees, rags-ro-riches stories seldom occur, what makes Network Marketing really stand out in that regard.

Like many of you, I do not have such a touching story. I was raised as a single child in a great family and my parents invested time, energy and money in my education. I was not the best at school, but I did quite well. I went to university and studied science and even completed my PhD. No rags in my life. But also no riches. Nothing spectacular to talk about – except the fact that by having a doctor’s degree no one would consider or call you dumb anymore. But that’s about it.

Back to Network Marketing. Are you getting my point yet?

A college degree does not really encourage you to become a great networker. Nor does an “OK” environment. Hunger does, burning desire does, but not an OK life. An OK life is a Plan B, and a Plan B is Plan A’s biggest enemy. And where’s the impressive story that would really touch people? What to tell others on stage when it comes to your testimonial? How to get people emotionally touched, paired with the message: “If I can do this, you can too!”? I have heard people tell me many times: “Yeah, Sven, you could have been successful in any profession… but that guy over there, he really had no other option…”. Honestly, what’s the difference? Except the true fact that people did call me stupid when I started this – not him.

Friends, time to think! There are so many people in our western hemisphere who just do just about “OK”. Like I did. Like you do. They live an OK life, their family environment is OK, their financial situation too as well as their education. Just everything is about OK. Their car, their job, their homes, their vacations, their marriage, their fitness and health level. It’s all OK. And their friends are OK too. “Good morning, Mr. and Mrs. Average, welcome to the family!”

Those are the people we meet out on the street every day. Those we attempt to sponsor into our business and those are the ones we encourage to dream just a little bigger. But guess what: They all have SOMETHING substantial to give up! Here’s where we get trapped. Remember, they are (absolutely) OK! They have already built a life – which is OK! No rags, in some cases even some riches.

Now: What is harder? To go full blast from having nothing to lose because it was lost before or was even never there, hating your life, desperately wanting something else? Or to sacrifice what you have built so far, even if it is not yet a real masterpiece – but you do OK? The conflict is not with those who have nothing to give up, it is really with those who do!

This conversation really shifted my way of thinking about this subject – and the people it concerns, including myself. I always was so deeply impressed about the incredible rags-to-riches stories I was hearing from all over the world, and yes, I am incredibly happy for those people to have mastered their stony path to the sunny side of life, some of them out of the complete dark. They truly deserve the glory. But let’s also acknowledge those who have initially given up what they had built for years, maybe even decades. Their careers, jobs, businesses, their incomes, even some valuable relationships, for making this their new life.

I met people who quit their jobs that fed their families to take the risk and go full-time in this business. In some of the cases, this was a hard fight, they were initially struggling and had to make huge sacrifices. Their spouses called them crazy and so did most of their friends. Money was short and relationships suffered. No one wanted to join them, i.e. give up what they had. Life was not the same anymore. For a time, they did worse than ever before. Tough to build from that point – when you do really have SOMETHING to give up, right? At the point of no return, which then comes quicker as you imagined, you finally have to make it work or go completely broke.

I do very well remember 1994, when after 1.5 years part-time I decided to turn all those great job offers down that hit me while I was still working on my PhD. I told people I decided for my own business in Network Marketing – for freedom! Guess how many could not understand that. They shook their heads, some even called me crazy. “What did he do his PhD for…?”, they asked. I very well remember a conversation I had with my great professor unveiling my plans while turning him down on another lucrative, 6-figure a year salary job offer that he presented to me. He asked me why I did study all those years for this and I answered to him that it was not for this, but it was definitely worth while. A few years later, when I showed him the first network marketing magazine article I was featured in, he told me that he was always hoping I would become successful and not regret that I had put everything else at risk. I never did regret my decision for Network Marketing, although it was very tough sometimes. And once taken that full-time step, the “point of no return” hit me pretty quickly. Believe me, there were some sleepless nights involved after giving up 9 years of working hard toward a well-paid and pretty safe profession, crowned by a great title. A tough crossroad. A hard decision. This business can be rewarding – but only if you make it work. No trial, no play. And you have to make it work even more when you “trade” something valuable for it, which is your OK life.

I want to encourage you to show faith once you decide to become a successful full-time Network Marketer. In life, we have to make sacrifices in order to have something greater come to us. If your story does NOT begin with “I come from a very poor family, we had nothing… (to lose)“, things might in fact be even a little tougher at the beginning. You do have something to give up. And the temptation to quit is also higher on your stony path to success if you have a Plan B option. Network Marketing cannot be “tried”. You either DO IT, or you will quit sooner or later. This answers the common question, why so many people fail. Let me tell you: No one fails here! They just quit, long before they would fail, after having played around with it, not being willing to go the extra mile. Because their life is OK anyway.

Let’s cherish those, who – in spite of their previous OK life – still make it to the top. Every story will be worth telling. Not just the rags-to-riches ones. Yours too.
